NORTHWARD

After a long trip south, south, south through Kansas and Oklahoma then south and west through Texas, then west and north through New Mexico into Colorado, then Sidewinding in Utah, Nevada and to the coast of California, we are going North again...

Wine country.

Dogs. Dead ones, live ones.

Limes and and blood oranges.

Water restrictions followed and subverted as sprinklers spray -- daring the neighbors.

Last of West (for now)

JUST EAST OF AUSTIN, NEVADA: Highway 50 to 376 south.

Hung a left off the Loneliest Highway for Jerry's Ranch.

He met us halfway, at the Campground near the cave.

Drove on to the stone house, to the mares let out and mustangs gotten in.

Scramble eggs, donkeys, and one new nameless goat.

A saloon had moved 85 miles with a bear rolled up with the knife that skinned it.

Saying NO to GPS

STILLWATER LAKE TO CARP LAKE, COLORADO:

34 to 40 to I70 past Breckenridge, Vail, Beaver Creek, Copper Mountain. Hung a left at Glenwood Springs in search of the Avalanche Creek Campground for lunch but it was lost and we never found it. Kept going off the beaten path through Marble, Redstone, Hotchkiss, Orchard City, Cedaredge to Grand Mesa National Forest where there are lots of bugs.

Camping was $8 with a senior NPS pass (go GB) and $16 if you are young and poor.

YES, OUR ROAD

JUST LEFT THE KOA KAMPGROUND IN ELY, NEVADA.

WE ARE PUSHING ON TO GREENER PASTURES (OTHER CAMPGROUNDS) IN AUSTIN, 147 MILES WEST.

WHY?

1. WE JUST GAINED ONE HOUR AT THE NEVADA BORDER -- PACIFIC TIME.

2. WE HAVE ALL HAD SHOWERS. (KOA, WE LOVE YOU). NOW HAVE A NEW MORE POSITIVE (HORSE TO BARN) STATE OF MIND.

3. CARLYN NEEDS TO GET TO CALIFORNIA. SHE CAN SMELL IT.

LITTLE CHILDREN

BOULDER COLORADO: After much fuss, planning and speculation, the Sindwinder team has just doubled in size with the delivery and pick up of these two fine literary children to and from the Denver International Airport.

The older one has a driver's license. They both have debit cards.

They will stay on the tour till Seattle.

They will not spend all their money in Boulder since we are leaving today after a wonderful night with Jodie Hoke and Carol Keeley and they new friends last night at the Boulder Bookstore.

We are looking at Maps.

We are reading for the Rockies. Next stops:

June 30, BOOKS INC, Mountain View, CA. with Robert Thomas.
July 1, BOOK PASSAGE, San Francisco, CA (Ferry Building Store), 6 pm.
